17/10/2013 „Clean Mtkvari by 2014“ Project Moved to Active Phase
Large-scale project of “Clean Mtkvari by 2014” (“Mtkvari river without Waste Waters”), being implemented by Georgian Water and Power company for several years, has moved to active phase since the current year.
CEO of Georgian Water and Power Alexei Kuznetsov familiarized mayor of Tbilisi – Gigi Ugulava and vice mayor Davit Ninidze with the works in progress under the project today. For this purpose they visited the site in Lower Phonichala, on the territory of forest park, where integrated works are in progress and the concrete gravity conduit of d=800 mm and l=2,100 m is being completely rehabilitated. The network updated as a result of reconstruction has to be connected to the pumping station under construction. Georgian Water and Power is also constructing 2 parallel d=500 mm pressure sewage networks coming out of the pumping station total length of which is 3,200 m. Both new networks will finally connect to the main outlet collector of Gardabani. Design costs of the facility make up Gel 2,530 million.
“Clean Mtkvari by 2014” (“Mtkvari river without Waste Waters”) has been implemented for 5 years. The company has finished reconstruction of about 80 facilities in different districts of Tbilisi this year. This number will increase by 70 more rehabilitated facilities by the end of the year.
Before the beginning of the project the capital’s fecal matter containing waters run into Mtkvari river through the storm water drainage system. The project provides for the separation of storm waters and drainage (sewage) systems, arranging of totally new communications, rehabilitation of old and aged networks and their connection to the operative networks. The project provides for the separated drainage networks connecting to the collectors located on the right and left banks of Mtkvari river and finally – to main outlet collector. Tbilisi waste waters will reach this way Gardabani treatment plant. As a result of the project’s implementation we will get clean river in the capital city.
