16/03/2015 Tbilisi Water Supply Networks Rehabilitation is Shifted to more Intensive Phase
Georgian Water and Power Ltd. has commenced intensive rehabilitation of water supply and sewage networks. In the course of the year 2015 the company investment program will be implemented in several directions.
Reconstruction of critical sections of water supply large mains is one of the important directions of the investment plan for this year. It is planned to renew the second D=900 mm, the sixth D=1400 mm, the seventh D=1400 mm and D=1000 mm, line close to the airport, water conduits. The company shall commence the works from May and complete them by the end of the year. Besides, powerful pumping stations at the company’s headworks and local pressure regulating stations located in various districts of Tbilisi will be gradually re-equipped with contemporary pump-aggregates and pressure regulators with the help of which pressure, according to the changes in water supply, will be automatically regulated.
Replacement of Tbilisi street obsolete and depreciated underground communications is one of the main directions of the investment program being implemented by the company under coordination with the Mayor’s Office of Tbilisi. The priorities are strictly observed in the rehabilitation plan for this year and it involves the streets where water supply and sewage networks need urgent renewal. Planning of technical works, as a rule, was preceded by studying of the networks real situation in various districts. For this moment the company has already finished replacement-renewal works in 11 streets, including, Javakhishvili (former Elbakidze), Chirnakhuli, Gudiashvili, Mamradze, Chitaia, Tsromi streets, buildings A and B in Varketili and the IV m/r of Varketili-3. In parallel, the company is carrying out rehabilitation works simultaneously in 10 streets – Choporta, Agmashenebeli (vil. Giorgitsminda), Chaisubani, Gaprindauli, Peritsvaleba, Kakheti blind alley, Iveria, brothers Zubalashvili, Tskneti highway and close to 28 Peking Ave. In the mentioned streets more than 8,000 m of depreciated water supply and sewage networks are changed, new multipurpose valves are being installed and new junction wells are being arranged. After renewal of the water supply and sewage networks relevant services of the Mayor’s Office shall ensure rehabilitation the surfaces in all streets of Tbilisi.
One more priority of the program for this year has been developed to create less discomfort for our consumers. Georgian Water and Power is taking special measures to maximally reduce the number of consumers remaining without water in the course of implementation of technical works. The company has a program in compliance with which additional 1,050 multipurpose valves will be installed on water supply networks in various districts of Tbilisi. The company commenced activities in this direction in the last quarter of the year 2014 and it has already installed 150 additional valves.
As the result of implementation of all basic directions of the rehabilitation program for the year 2015 Georgian Water and Power will significantly reduce losses of drinking water and emergency damages in water supply and sewage networks, which, in its turn, will promote stability of Tbilisi water supply system and improvement of water supply service for population.
