22/06/2015 “Georgian Water & Power“keeps operating in enhanced mode
“Georgian Water &Power“ company has been operating in 24-hour mode since the night of 13 June,dueto crisis situation in Tbilisi. Reconstruction works of the water supply andwater drainage systems damaged as a result of natural calamity are still goingon being performed by the Company in cooperation with the town’s services ofthe city hall of Tbilisi.
The work is underway inVere river gorge to repair 900 mm sewage collector running to Tskhneti street whichwas completely torn away by the sudden earth flow at night of 14 June, togetherwith aqueduct bridge and nearby slope. In order to prevent the problems facing theroad works performance and other current works the company, in agreement withother services of the city hall, made an interim decision to arrange atemporary sewage network of 140 meters near Vere river instead of the damagedcollector, which was the only correct technical solution in the emergedsituation. The flows coming out of the slopes are no longer dangerous for thedam arranged in Vere gorge and the ongoing works. Upon completion of the road and cleaning works the network will be reinstated.
Asof today the company has restored 5 main pipelines broken by natural calamityand removed more than 200 mid and small damages.
Specialists of the Company’s laboratorykeep working in emergency mode to testquality of water after the damaged water supply and sewage networks are restored in different districts ofTbilisi. Drinking water is being suppliedto the population only after careful monitoring.
